Accommodation warm and cozy, just perfect. Food yummy and healthy, just right. Denise as a instructor was absolutely beautiful, down to earth, specific and very encouraging. Most of all knowledgeable and always positive.
The whole experience was fantastic, we learnt a lot, not only about our dogs ability but also our ability. We are going home with hope and positive thoughts and a plan. We will return.

I enjoyed every minute of the online clinic Denise as a Instructor was well prepared on each section. Denise was thorough but inclusive and friendly, explaining well always prepared to answer questions. I would recommend these clinics to all persons who want to learn how to relate to their dogs to get a positive working relationship . I hope to be able to take part in such a clinic again.

Thank you so much for offering this short course. I was over the moon when I realized I had actually managed to make the cut and I thoroughly enjoyed it.
As someone who does not have a lot of experience herding I have tried to garner as much information as I can from many sources. Some of these experiences have been more positive than others and this has been reflected in the experience of my dogs.
I like all of the foundation work that you have covered in this course as I have never had anyone explain any of this to me before. I have limited access to sheep so do not get to train on them very often and simply thought that there was nothing else I could do in order to train my dogs for herding.
You mentioned that you were looking at doing a travelling school. I would be VERY interested in attending one of these. Your 5 day school on your property is in my bucket list though.
I would certainly recommend your courses as they were recommended to me by an avid herding handler. You are clearly very passionate about what you do and you have chosen to better your methods over time and develop ways that are best for the dog, stock and handler which is so important in any dog sport.
I could not log onto the zoom meeting as my phone had a meltdown at that time. I have participated in many zoom meetings and the like for my work and they are a great way for people to communicate remotely.
Thank you so much for the opportunity to gain an insight into what you do. Your style and passion for the work is evident and you teach in a clear and easy to understand style.
I hope to participate in one of your other classes soon.
Please feel free to use any of my comments as a testimonial.
Kind Regards,
Tanya Munn

Kaden’s working dog schools run a comprehensive training program that has been carefully constructed for the development of a confident and well rounded sheep dog. Denise tackles training with all her heart and enthusiasm (this is considerable), and her drive to get the best from the dogs is admirable. Her philosophy of patience, kindness and positivity allows the dogs to shine. Working through an issue is tackled with a can do attitude and positivity and importantly no punishment (for dog or handler). Feedback is delivered sensitively but directly and there is always a solution to a problem. Denise not only assists the training of trialling dogs but overlays this with the practical needs of dogs working sheep on a working station. Kadens way works. Being welcomed into the Hawe home and spending 5 days training my dog here was a wonderful experience that I hope to repeat next year.

I spent 5 days working my young dog Kaden’s Nem with Denise at Spring Plains. I am a raw beginner at this, with only some limited exposure through my local club, for very mixed results.
Denise has a good eye for what is happening, and is clear with her explanations, encouraging with her comments – but doesn’t say “good” when it is not “good”! Most of our sessions were videod and reviewed, Denise is aware that when I left I was on my own and encouraged me to critique the work myself. I will also get the videos, complete with comments, for reference.
Five days is a good length, problems occur in the first couple of days and while they won’t be “fixed” at the end, the tools will be in place to move forward and hopefully some improvement will be showing. However 5 days is a lot of work for the dog, and you need to pace things appropriately. Nem worked half a day the first day, and half a day on the middle day and although tired by Friday, she was still enthusiastic.
Denise is very much about getting you to work with your dog, not just “showing” you how it is done.

- Day 1 – assessment. Denise watched us in the round yard, a few pointers but really she was working out a little program for us ....
- Day 2 – me. Back in the round yard focussing on me and my bad habits. Some of this I had been told before but with clear explanations from Denise I actually made progress, not surprisingly Nemmy improved as well with more consistency and direction from me
- Day 3 – we moved to a reasonable sized yard, this time focussing on some of Nemmy’s tendencies that we wanted to modify, mostly coming in close when working anti-clockwise and rushing. A larger problem showed up during this work – she was loving it and did not want to call off the sheep.
- Day 4 – consolidating the work, began a little “fetch and carry” exercise. Focussed on the call off – in the afternoon a concentrated session blocking her from getting to the sheep until she was ready to come, a marathon session.
- Day 5 – some lovely work first off with a shorter discussion about calling off, a second messy session which taught me the value of planning my work properly and focussing, and an evening session with some lovely work and a reasonably quick call off.
Denise has a good eye for what is happening, and is clear with her explanations, encouraging with her comments – but doesn’t say “good” when it is not “good”!
